Hello to all.

My first post, just another newbie to hardwood.

I have a fairly large dip in my floor that I am going to put 3/4" hardwood down on. dip is about 5/8" at the most about 4ft wide then tapers to nothing. I was going to put in another layer of ply wood, 1/2" then 1/4" out near the edges, glue, screw that down, then fill in and flatten out with leveling compound. Is this the way to go? Are there problems nailing through the compound? Will it break up since they are concrete based? The compound I was going to use is from home Depot, bag says polymer re-enforced. I used some other stuff on concrete when I was laying ceramic.

Just think though, what about cutting up the subfloor, shimming on the joists, then putting subfloor back down? I cringe at the thought though

Thanks

Dennis

Dennis, your last hought was actually the best. And patch will break up. You can use roofing tiles and paper but only so much. A 5/8 dip is to much to fill with anything really.

thanks for the reply. new ply and lumber is in the living room, waiting for tomorrow morning. Instead of trying to work out shims for on top of the existing joists, going to laminate 2x6's to the existing, glue and screw to the new height and lay down new ply.
