We are using a Bostitch MIIIFS Pneumatic Floor Stapler with 2" staples (which may be the problem) on a beautiful 9/16" Engineered Jatoba floor (subfloor is 3/4" OSB). We plan to finish 800 square feet (a DIY project). As we got past the first few rows of blind nailing, we noticed that once we started using the stapler, there are bumps on the surface (albeit very light, but bothersome to me) where the staples were set. We tried adjusting the PSI (we have been operating at 95) only to damage the tongue so we turned it back. We are using the foot, but I am not sure that it is set at the correct height. We have two silver plates, a white plactic plate and the black protector footing. Can anyone suggest what combination of these plates would suit our 9/16" best? Also, should we go down to a 1.5" staple or try another method/stapler altogether?

Thanks in advance!

The M111 may shoot too large of a gauge fastener when installing 9/16, depending on the tongue profile. Sometimes adjusting psi won't do the trick. I use the M111 on alot of 5/8" Bamboo with success. But if you've read some earlier posts, that has been questioned,( huh Perry?,lol ).

Using a shorter fastener length with a 15 ga staple isn't going to eliminate bumps in alot of situations. You may need to consider going with an 18 gauge staple, 1 1/2" length.

too big a staple must be a smaller gauge. that stapler will work on 1/2" solids but with that floor being engineered it will want to lift the plys. its probally hitting right where the veneer meets the backer plys seperating it giving you a nice little bump.

You need an 18-20 gauge stapler, capable of shooting a staple longer than 1"

I have a HighPro AS-4090, that works sweet.

Staples 4-6" apart.
