Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

About 5 years ago we installed hardwood in our entryway which transistions into the kitchen.

We would now like to install hardwood throughout the main floor of the house. The problem is that we can't seem to locate the same flooring or a close match due to the width of the currently installed floor (3.5 inches wide random lengths). We have found close enough matches on the finish but the width is the issue.

There are three passageways that we will need to transition into two of which are roughly 4 1/2 feet wide and the other a standard doorway. I was thinking of laying one piece of flooring in the doorway opening to make the transition to the next room. The problem is that the width of the new flooring won't match the width of the old flooring and even though the transition is there it seems like it would look odd as the lines won't match up.

Any ideas on whether this install would look bad?

BTW - the old flooring was FNEN (I understand FERMA is the same) 3.5 inch wide 3/4 planks Model 209B better & select wood if anyone has ideas where to obtain. This would be my best option.

One good way to do the transition would be to use a ceramic tile deco. The deco would be busy looking and would take away from the wood floor not lining up. You'll probally want something that would have wood tones but something that would stick out a little. The idea here is to focus the eye on the tile and not the wood at the point of transition.

The transition boards will work fine if you can not find the same width flooring we have done this frequently in the same situation.
