Greetings all -

We have decided to go the diagonal route to install our hardwood flooring, I am hoping I get couple of pointers on the starting point.

Below is the layout of the rooms, all new Advantech subfloor with 12 on center joists.

I did some reading and the suggestion is to always start in the middle, but I noticed couple of recommendations to start from corners as well.

What's the recommendations for the proper way and not necessarily the fastest.

Thank you.

First pick your preferred angle direction..

then take the room dimension.

lets say 12x 16 for example.

from the one corner of the 12' wall measure 12' up your 16' wall.

strike a line from corner to that 12mark on the 16 wall.

run a dummy course as a guide.

install your first couple rows..remove dummy course..install slip tongue or spline..back fill in and continue for a few courses..before proceeding any further measure and strait line to make sure you haven run out.

if all is good ..install away and finish one side..then fill in the other.

the check is pertinent ..never assume you are strait or at the right angle..this is why you back fill in first before just running wild..those first few starter courses in both directions are crucial..after that you are home free.

and this is the best way to start any angles flooring. never start from a small corner.you are sure to run wild and out if square and strait.

Thanks for the suggestions James.

In my case I am interested in 45 degree angle, can I still use the same approach?

Thanks again.

THE Instructions outlined are for a 45 degree angles.

you just need to pick your direction.
