I'm using 3/4" prefinished maple hardwood and ran into a bit of a snag.

I have a wall at a 45 degree angle- so I want to use a border to transition to the wall. I understand I will be using the tongue and groove on the straight pieces so my questions are regarding the 45 degree angled pieces.

1. How do I join the 45 degree border pieces together? Splines?
2. How do I join the field hardwood that will need to be cut at the 45 degree angle to join that piece? Since the end will be cut, there is only a flat mating surface. Splines again?
3. How do I attach the hardwood border to the subfloor... face nail and floor nail or both?

Thank you!

Can't find much on EZ-groove except the band. Any other tips on finding it?

Jerry are those generic slot cutters you posted a link for just as good as the EZ groove?

At a 3:1 price ratio I'll no doubt make the switch, unless I'm compromising performance or ease-of-use.

I ended up mitering the cuts and slotting with a rabbet bit on a router. Worked out perfectly! Anybody know an easy way to transition to carpeting? New carpeting is coming in about two weeks and want a seamless transition if possible (No wood transition) I know safe-t-strip makes a product; but is expensive in relation to what tack strips should cost. Is there another solution to butt carpet to hardwood?

Is that Kenny boy from Jersey? Talked to him last week. Thats the way I transition to crapet. Is there any other better way?

I have not used the EZ Groove bits to be able to answer that :) That said, I've been using MCLS bits for several years now with no complaints.

Me too. But I'm usually tucking the carpet and not crapet

Sometimes ¾ can be a little tall to just tuck some thinner carpets to.

Try www.carpetshims.com
