We finally found an engineered wood that is an almost exact match to the rooms we are trying to 'match'. We have an open floor plan - very large and spacious and open, with a foyer coming in, a dining room to the left and a living room to the right (both of these are carpeted and where the new wood would go). We had someone come out and measure, give an estimate, etc., and he is asking us which way we want the wood to go - to 'match up' with the wood already in the foyer and adjacent great room (one seamless look) or to switch up the direction of the wood in the two rooms we are adding. I'm totally confused and don't know what to do! The floor plan is open enough to where if we switch directions it isn't going to look 'boxed in' and it does seem like it would set some distinct lines as to where the foyer stopped and the DR and LR begin, but won't this look odd? On the other hand, perhaps keeping all of the lines smooth and in the same direction will make it look like a huge sea of wood since it is such a large open space. Any thoughts on this? What is common and popular to do, AND, with the change in direction, does it create confusion to the eye when looking at it??? Thanks for any advice
