Yeah, you can sand and restain maple but you may not like the results. Maple stains sort of like pine; splotchy. There are tricks to control this somewhat, like stain controllers, etc. My suggestion: get some raw maple (not plywood veneer but solid) and try to stain it the color you want and see for yourself whether you like the look or not. As Chuck so aptly put it, "One man's crap is another man's ice cream". You'll be hard pressed to find a pro to do this for you as we don't like to stick our necks out. Floor guy is correct in saying that he never lost money on a job he didn't do. He speaks for all us pros.
