Hi. I have a problem with the pre-finished Columbia Pecan Engineered flooring installed in my house about 9 years ago. The flooring was installed over a concrete slab and I don't know what adhesive was used or what was done to contain moisture as the installer went out of business. I had another company come out and take a look, but they didn't know what to make of it. The problem is that large blotchy areas have developed throughout the house - not just over areas where there might be water lines or near the foundation headers. I believe that most of it has happened over the last year and had a plumber check the pressure to the house to detect any leaks and there were none. I noticed a comment or two that Pecan & Hickory tend to have issues (I have to agree) but I wasn't sure if this is what they were referring to or if I should suspect the installation or some other cause. I am hesitant to replace the floor without figuring out what caused this in the first place. Any ideas? I can post photos later if it will help. Thanks.

You really cannot tell whats going on without some destructive site examination. Looking at it will tell you a few things but not everything.

sounds like you have some issues other than the floor itself. Water will find the lowest spot on the slab, it can travel quite a bit. Id have some one check the moisture in the area that dark vs other areas and see if that helps shed some light on the subject. if the floor was fine for 8 years something has changed.

Since my original posting, I have had the floor inspected and have ruled out termites and there is no moisture in the foor either. However, I remembered that I had a leak under my slab more than a year ago and am now wondering if the water lost under the slab then might have migrated and if it's just taken awhile for the discoloration to appear. I first noticed this starting about a year ago and it just got worse until I couldn't ignore it any longer. Any thoughts?

What kind of inspection was that? Did they use a meter? What kind? Any report we can read?
