I live in a three storey town house and am about to install Kahrs woodloc on the first floor. All the doors on this level have had their door casings lined with what looks like 2" x 3/4" wood either by the original builders or the previous owners. I'm not sure why this has been done but it looks like the intention was to reinforce the structure around the doorways.

My question is how do I carry my Kahrs flooring from one room to another without cutting the base of the door casing? Is a door casing supposed to be a structural feature and is it worth the risk? Has anyone a photograph or can recommend a method of working around a doorway that will ensure a neat finish?

Thank you

Got any pictures? The frame of the structure is behind the casing itself. Perhaps someone just made a boo-boo in cutting the casings and trim.

Have seen structural metal casings in commercial, but you never know. You may want to call a reputable GC over there to take a look. Or maybe you can be creative and trim them out, (just up from the floor), with a profile that would look good.
