Hi everyone,

I've lived in my current apartment for 5 years, and moving out soon. I need to do something about the floor, as the new management company will most likely withhold my security deposit if I don't fix it myself.

This is my situation:

I have a dog, and there's a lot of scratches on the floor. However, from what the maintenance they can get those out without much work. The part I am worried about is I put some of the wrong cleaner on the floor a couple years back, and it completely worn off the finish on a section of it.

Is there anyway I can repair the worn off part of the floor myself? I was reading and someone mentioned buying similar color and trying to stain it. What would be the best route?

I have included some pictures. Thank you in advance!

Unfortunately it looks like the floors need to be sanded and refinished. This is best left to a pro. Trying to do this yourself with no experience could turn a bad situation worse. The wood appears to be maple, which is difficult to stain and even more of a reason to leave this job to a pro. I understand this is not the answer you are looking for, but trust me you do not want to make it worse.

Thank you for your response. Do you have a ballpark estimate on what it would cost? The floor is in total about 800sqft.

800sf sand, stain and finish a maple floor probably more then your security deposit. I would charge around $2600.00
