I am having new pre-finished 3/4' pine hardwood installed and have decided to face nail (in addition to tongue nail) insyead of spending $400-$500 on adhesive. Any opinions on using cut nails and pre-drilling pilot holes ie, wood splitting versus using regular finish nails w\ or without nail gun? Thanks...

Depends on the look you are going for. Also, the cut nails will hold way better than standard wire finish nails. If you are face nailing, go with the cut nails recommended by the manufacturer. Pre drilling pilot holes is probably a wise idea to prevent splits.

The 8's. With 6's, you'll only get 1/2" or so into the joists.
