I am in the process of removing an old parquet flooring in a 1957professional brick home my wife and I purchased. We have had several contractors come and look at the floor removal and have received conflicting advice on whether the old Cut Back adhesive can be removed without affecting the concrete slab's ability to adhere the new floor to it. Also, I have seen conflicting articles on whether cut back contains asbestos. We have not started the removal of the adhesive and are considering using an adhesive called 747. What are your thoughts? I would be very open to any other recommended products

Many Thanks

Cutback Mastic must be completely removed. Use paintstripper (citristrip or soy-gel for example) and cover with thin plastic. Allow to soften and scrape slurry of with wide blade putty knifes. Clean well with recommended wash solvent (read precautions). This "wet method" will prevent airborne dangers like asbestos. Dispose removed material safely and responcible.

Next concrete will need to be scarified to get completely clean (check under congrete grinding on Youtube to get that idea) to clean and flatten if needed. This is important to do it correctly as any high spots can be removed allowing a good install of the flooring. Low spots may need to be filled.

Next flooring may be glued down with high quality adhesive.

Johannes.

Not sure who makes the 747 but Stauf has a new one, I have yet to try it but I sure will next time I run into a job with cutback. Howard told me about it. It beats shotblasting it or skimcoating it with Ardex feather finish. Or what Johannes said.

Not so sure why Stauf says "Must not contain asbestos." You would think it could adhere to it with or without asbestos.
