I am in the process of installing some 5/8" stranded carbonized bamboo flooring. I prepped the subfloor by scraping it where needed and adding a bunch of screws into the joists until it didn't make any more noise. The majority of the floor is down but I have noticed that the floor creaks along the outside rows where I had to hand nail the flooring because the air nailer didn't fit.

I was first using 6D finish nails and predrilling the bamboo (but not the subfloor) so that I could actually penetrate it, but after noticing the creaks, I moved to 8D galvanized finish nails. I still seem to be noticing some creaks even with these nails.

What is the recommended nail to use and what should the spacing be? Any recommendations for the first two courses that were put down using the wrong nails? I guess I could always face nail them and fill them in.

Thanks for reading.

Start AND end with adhesive,

finish nail at edge of board when starting and closing where trim/show will cover.

finish nail thru the tongue...let the glue do the rest.

when hand nailing in the future..use screw nails

Thanks for the advice. I was using a blue foam product as a moisture barrier between the subfloor and the bamboo, should I have started it a few courses in rather that at the edge so the glue could adhere to the subfloor?

Anyway, it's already done. Any options to fix it without ripping it up and starting over? The rest of the floor is rock solid and there are only a few small sections that are bothering me.

I was looking at the o'berry counter snap kit but I wasn't sure if it worked for bamboo.

Thanks again!
Alex

they should work. One other problem is foam is used for floating floors with a nail down you don't want to use anything that will compress.
