Hi All. I'm just curious if any one else has come across this... I've noticed several boxes of my maple floor have small, hairline cracks; maybe 2-3 cracked boards in each of my last 3 boxes. All cracks (except one I note below) seem to be on the longest boards, only on the grooved end, and between .5" and 1" long. They're small enough that I dont notice them until I have cut off the tongue side. But now that I notice them they are all similar in size and location.
I found one cracked board that's about 6" long on a 12" board so I'm thinking it was small enough that I didn't notice it before i nailed it down.
Now I'm more diligent at visually inspecting for defects as well as running a hand up and down the board before it gets cut or nailed, but are these cracked boards normal?

Is your flooring a solid? If so, it seems that in every install I have, whether it's unfinished or factory finished, there's a board or two that is cracked all the way through on one end. And even sometimes the entire length of the board. It happens, so you try to catch those and either cut off the crack or put it aside. I would say it's normal as long as it's just a few.

Yes, it's solid, prefinished 3/4" x 3.5" maple.

Thanks for the reply, Gary. I'll keep my eyes peeled for more just in case but I wont lose any sleep over it now.
