I'm going to be putting down about 1,000 sq ft of American Cherry in my home and had a few questions. First off does any one know where I can find some pictures of some floors done in cherry?

My g/f wants to stain the floor darker and I was trying to tell her it would look very pretty without stain. If any one has pictures of both that would be great.

Second, any times on floor care in the softer wood? I'm a little worried about the floor being easily dented. I have already heard a couple of stories about people moving tv's and appliances across their cherry floors and leaving marks in the wood. Is there a harder coating I could put over the top without taking away the beauty of the wood?

TIA

You could try an image search on Google. To try and answer your question on softness, to my knowledge there is no finish that will make Am. Cherry harder. But, there is a process called impregnation that does actually make the wood harder. Two times harder i have been told. Hartco "Pattern Plus" is the product http://www.hardwoodinstaller.com/hardwo ... n-plus.htm

Yes, acrylic impregnation will improve a woods hardness. However, it makes the wood look "funny" for lack of a better term. I can always spot a Pattern Plus floor a mile away because of the unique appearence the impregnating process gives the wood. I don't think the competition, Perma Grain, is in business anymore.

Well I already have the wood for my floors, it's sitting in the kiln right now. The amish are doing all my floors, trim, and cabinets in cherry so I think the impregnation part is out...

Thanks for the replies.
