Hi guys,

I built my home over the last 18 months and installed 1200 sq/ft of Kempas flooring throughout my home. The floor looks excellent, but I've run into some problems. At various places in the installation, the am getting some substantial squeeking. I stapled the floor with a pneumatic stapler (2" staples). The Hardwood is 3 3/4" wide with various lengths. I have 5 boxes left over from the job.

What I'm wondering is if I cut out the pieces that were squeeking, could I glue new pieces in with PL Premium or another construction adhesive to fix this issue? I have a humidifier running full time on my Hi-Velocity HVAC system and the humidity hovers at about 35% depending on how cold it gets up here (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada). I had thought about screwing and plugging them, but the floor is prefinished and that would probably stand out like a sore thumb.

Any advice is surely appreciated,

Curtis

Yes, you could remove and glue down replacement boards. However, before you do, wait till summer when the humidity goes up. It may be that your floor has shrunk a little from low humidity. 35% is slightly below where it should be.

I also forgot to mention a few things after the fact. I have engineered 3/4" OSB over TGI joist that are 14 3/4 High by 3" wide (very strong for slate installation). The basement is heated below and my HVAC run's 24/7. The instal is perpendicular to the joists and the squeeking is only in about 6 places for whatever reason. (I think I remember forcing some boards that were warped a little thinking that the staples would hold them...maybe I was wrong!)
