I do sub contracted refinishing work for a few contractors and 1 particular contractor always has the same complaint. The last job i did for him was 400sqft existing white oak with about 8 boards replaced, and a hallway of new white oak that he had installed by another sub. All of the NEW wood has the soft grain raised almost like splintered wind shake after water popping (The hallway and repaired boards). I told him this is obviously the wood he is purchasjng. But what is the actual problem?
