So, I pulled up my nasty carpet yesterday and found somewhat decent hardwood underneath. It's going to have to be sanded and refinished, but, that's not why I am posting. I'm hoping someone can shed some light on the rest of what I found.

When I pulled up the carpet, I found two 1/4" pieces of plywood, pretty much dead center. I figured, ok, there's a hole or something under the plywood.

I had to know, so I pulled up the plywood and this is what I found:

So, my question is, why would they have placed the plywood down, when there is no damage to the sub floor? I'm thinking *maybe* they ran out of hardwood strips?

It measures 40" x 96"

It looks like there was a reason why the flooring was not laid where the plywood was.
It could have been an old cabinet, desk or something else. Could it have been a prayer rug?
Does it point toward Mecca?

Wow, I like the old subfloor more than the newer hardwood. It's obvious they cut it out with a skilsaw prolly due to some sort of damage.

That's what I am thinking, on both parts. May just tear up the new stuff and use the old.

Rustic is in. lol Do you know how much some places are selling old rustic barn wood with knots, nail holes an worm holes? Like 20 bucks a foot. Is there anything under the second layer?
I like the random width too? Can't tell if its fir or not.
