I am in the process of installing my first floating floor and have a couple questions about the allowances for movement.

In general, I left 1/4" space at all walls but, because of some inconsistencies,
the gaps range up to almost 1/2 inch. I am wondering if replacing the base shoe will be adequate coverage or if I need to got to quarter round? Will the movement be significant to show gaps with the base shoe?

Also, my project involved a hallway with several doorways I had to go under. It is aound 500 sq.ft., consisting of an approximate 450 sq.ft. great room and 50 sq.ft. hall off the middle of it going to the bedrooms. When I cut out the jambs, I created a fairly tight fit when installing the flooring. My concerns are weather the tight fit will restrict the necessary movement? And, if it is restricted (or not) will the hall movement affect the greatrooms movement (or vice versa)?

Sounds ok to me as long as the manufacturer's requirements have been met. You have always shim out the baseshoe in areas where it doesn't cover the gap then caulk behind the baseshoe. Simpler than removing and reinstalling floors. Of course you can always use a wider (thicker) molding as well.
