I searched filler and this was referenced a bunch of times. My question is, how is this stuff applied? After the floor is finished or before? I am doing Braz cherry so it will darken over time and it would be nice to re-fill the areas with a darker color later if needed! I won't be using a whole lot of the stuff, but I have a few spots in high traffic areas I would like to fix.

Thanks.

Evan

Colorite is used for prefinished hardwood, or filling after urethane ( on a sight finished floor). I would say your best bet would be trying to blend with the expected color that the Braz. Cherry will be over time. It would be very difficult to dig Colorite out, and change the color. For application...I usually dampen the area to be filled first, then wipe off all excess filler with a damp rag, then go over with a clean dry rag.

Thanks Howard. I appreciate the insight. Looks like neat stuff. I am doing a site finished floor and the finisher is planning on using poly for the finish. He also wants to use woodwise filler. He claims it will darken as the floor darkens. My experience with the braz. cherry is that it will darken very fast. I would rather have no filler than oddly matched filler. I am considering having him leave out the woodwize filler altogether and using colorite after the floor is finished.

Would this be a logical thing to do?

Thanks!

Evan

I'm familiar with Colorite, but not with Woodwise. I'm not a sand & finish guy, but I've heard good things about Woodwise filler. Although it would be pretty tough to convince me that their colored filler changes color with the wood. I guess this is possible on a filler that's maybe mixed with Braz. Cherry sawdust? Maybe one of the sand guys will chime in. That being said...Color Rite is more of a spot filler, and may not fill the needs of a site finished floor.

Congrats on the Packers!

Thanks Howard! Ill do some more research on the woodwise stuff, it would be awesome if it changed colors but I am skeptical at best and don't want to end up with light highlighted cracks!

woodwise does not change color as it ages. The only way it will age and stay the same color is if you use a sawdust based filler like Glitza's wood flour cement. The woodwise product is a good product just a different animal if you want it to age with the wood.

I'll be Keven :) , I took a wild stab at that sawdust thing, not bad . What do they say....."Know enough to be dangerous"? lol. Actually years back, I remember pops sand and finish guys using sawdust and sanding sealer , and trowel filling the floor. I had no idea it would change color with the wood, but it makes sense.

Sorry I wasn't clear Kevin. The installer indicated that the woodwise filler would change color. I am going to stay at the house the whole time he is there. I don't want him troweling the whole floor with the stuff.

Thanks guys.
