Post subject: Color range of Australian Cypress

My wife and I are building a lake house. We are going for a cabin type look. The ceilings in the master bedroom and the greatroom will be wood (probably pine).

I had picked out Australian Cypress as a floor, since it reminded me of pine, and was harder. A sample I saw was a honey/yellowish color. When we went to look again, the sample we saw was more gray, which my wife hated, so we have went towards hickory.

I saw some pictures on this site that looked more of the yellowish color for AC. Is there a big color difference in that wood, or is it finish dependent? I'm in Alabama, I'm planning on installing myself (haven't decided on if I will be finishing or not), is hickory or australian cypress a better choice?

Ron

a.cypress is more red/gold/browns lots and lots of small knots some black streaks. But one thing I checked on some 5" unfinished yesterday and it was alot higher than the last time I needed some over a 1.50 more than before. currently I can buy the hickory for that 1.50 less.
