We removed a wall during a remodel, exposing flooring beneath. This flooring was not previously finished or exposed to sunlight. I screened and coated the entire floor with a matching water based finish. The floor is unstained maple. The newly exposed flooring is lighter than the remainder of the floor. Probably due the fact that it has not been exposed to sunlight. After some exposure, this difference will probably be less noticeable however, the customer is not happy. I suppose I could artfully stain some yellow in the newly exposed wood, but eventually with exposure it will probably yellow even more and look uneven again. I could sand out the entire room but the room is now wide open to the remainder of the house and this room would appear lighter than the rest. Any suggestions?

I guess you were not specific in your proposal/contract, that the area where the wall was removed, may not match.

You've got that right! Thing is, I didn't write the contract. I walked in for a contractor friend of mine. I'll get paid. I did actually tell the home owner not to expect a perfect match, so the ball is in the contractors court. just thought I'd see if there were any creative developments for this kind of issue. Thanks.

Never walk into a job and start working without a very specific, signed contract from the guy paying you!!!! This keeps everyone in check, about what is going to happen and what your getting compensated for.
