I have Bruce Kennedale Strips (3/4" Maple, Natural color, pre-finished) that I installed two years ago. An area that is near the window has some color change---the area is exposed to indirect sunlight and it has changed to some what of muted canary yellow color than the rest of the floor. Does color change occur only in the finish or to wood itself or to both? That is, can this color difference be resolved through the refinishing or is this a permanently embodied into the wood itself? I understand that refinishing is a temporary solution unless I block out the sunlight out of the area.

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.

Most wood and interior finishes are photo-reactive ( light sensitive ). Some woods will change color more so than others. Maple is not one of those. If you do not like the appearance of the floors now, by having them completely refinished ( sanded down ), they should be able to the new look again. Then use a floor finish that contains a UV inhibitor and filter out all outside sunlight as much as possible.
