I'm going to be installing a click-lock floating bamboo floor in an attic. I have click-lock bullnose for around the stairwell. Everything I read about layout says to start from the longest wall, but if I do that, I won't end up exactly where I need to be to click-lock the bullnose. Do I start from the stairwell? That can't be right. Or does the bullnose not get click-locked, but butt-joined? I hope I'm explaining this well enough. Essentially, the last board before the bullnose will get ripped so that it ends leaving enough room for the bullnose, but that will rip the groove off. But then would I have to rip the tongue off the bullnose to get a glue surface for the joint?

Yea, I'm a bit stumped too. Those kind of floors usually have an overlap type bull nose. And I've seen none with a tongue. There are a number of times where areas get started straight off the nosing. Come to think of it...all the time I can think of....unless it's an overlap that has no connecting mechanism or groove.

Have any pictures to share?

Yeah that locking stairnose would be great if it didn't need to be fasten'd down. What are they thinking? They are good for the stairs themselves so as to avoid the overlap tripping hazard.
Your going to have to glue down the bamboo if you want a flush transition to the stairnose.

ooohhh..I get it now..

riunt he floor oppotie to either butt in on butt joints or shim nosing up and overlap.

the shimming will prevent tipping of the nosing.

lastly..do a dry run...set the nosing line.

then square it to your long outside wall..
take measure and see how it transfers to the far side.

if it needs a minor tweak then do so..set the nosing and start off from there.

problem this may have is the natural lay of click lock..(which I hate)

why?

reversing will now be difficult as they are designed to fit tongue to groove..not the opposite. assuming this may be needed by starting from the nosing,

you can also try this..now you have to be good.

make your strait line from starting long wall.
measure to bullnose edge at stair.
do the math to figure bullnose size vs plank size and cut your starter course to the size needed to make the payout end up to accommodate the bullnose.
remember being off a little can be worked out..you can trim the underside of the bullnose roundover to set further in if needed or if it sets out a bit, a molding or laminated riser can help.

solutions..its what I do

Thanks for the replies. I was wrong about the nosing, it is the overlap type, not click-lock. Floor is done now, and looks great!
