Just finished installing BR111 Triangulo Tigerwood engineered flooring in our dining area (glue down install). I've had a couple people recommend clearcoating the floor but not sure if this can or should be done with engineered flooring. The flooring was prefinished and has a clearcoat on it from the factory, albeit thin. Thinking it may be a good idea so it will seal the grooves, gaps, etc. We have 2 young kids so accidents are bound to happen.

Any thoughts--pro and/or cons. If this is possible and a good idea, what kind of prep should be done be putting on the clearcoat?

Thanks....

I would advise speaking with BR-111 to see if adding an additional coat of floor finish would void your warranty in any way. It may. Today, most factory finished floors have an enhanced urethane finish that is oftentimes, more durable than what can be applied on site. And another coat of finish will not make it water or moisture proof. It will seep into the seams and perhaps finish some sides or edges that were not finished at the factory. But the floor should have been installed tight enough not to expose any sides. If you do choose to proceed with adding more finish, I recommend using BONA Traffic floor finish and BONA's Prep System for recoating of pre-finished wood floors.
