My main concern is how to prevent chipping and splitting the floor surface when I make the cut. I do not have access to a track saw, so that is not an option.
Will just taping and/or placing a sheet of thin plywood or wooden piece help and prevent splitting?
Or should I use different blade?
Or different method?
A few things...
One, you might want to cut planks so the blade goes *into* the surface that will be visible and not out of it. You should have no problem doing that for face surfaces, but side surfaces still need to be taken care of otherwise.
Two, just about the most reliable way to get rid of chipping is to use sacrificial wood of same or higher density. Whenever the blade is coming *out* of the surface, that surface has to be propped. Usually you end up with sawing off thin slices of that sacrificial wood every time you make the cut, so there's not much of it you need to spend.
And another thing - you might get better results with using a miter saw than a circular saw, and it'll be easier to work with longer planks (which are a pain in the neck to crosscut on a circular saw, you might want to put together a cross-cutting sled for that if miter saw is not an option).
