Hello. I am new to this board and really appreciate the opportunity to ask a question. I am choosing prefinished wood flooring for our kitchen (solid wood flooring.) I have narrowed the choice to Hickory (natural) from Somerset and Muirfield Hickory (natural) from Mullican. Somerset has a 50 year warranty vs. 25 years for the Muirfield by Mullican. Somerset's narrowest board for this is 3 1/4 inches, and Muirfield's narrowest is 3 inches. We are butting it up to a red oak floor in the hall (1950's era narrower planks.) We kind of want the Muirfield , because we like the 3 inch boards, but other than that, they look pretty similar. Wondering if anyone has had experience with these, and trying to get opinions about which one might be better and why.
Thanks so much.

I carry both brands. However, I like somerset better than Mullican. Both products will be fine. Don't buy on a warranty claim. I generally tell customers if the material is installed right ( i.e check moisture, ect ) the material isn't going to just go bad. Take care of the floors and they will both last you. Abuse them and, you will find yourself refinishing.

Thanks so much for the reply.

I saw on one of the forums that someone said their Somerset flooring got a lot of dings in the finish (maybe because it was too thick, due to the 50 yr warranty.) I'm thinking maybe they had the oak flooring though.

Have you run across that problem with Somerset? We have just about decided on the Natural Hickory wide planks. The sample looks really beautiful.
