The idea of this is angering to some people because of its natural beauty but I have a client that is looking to hide the natural red colour of Brazilian Cherry. She has just bought a house that has 1200 square feet of site finished Cherry. The floor is about 10 years old and is a very dark shade of red. She would like it white washed but I know that once sanded down Jatoba will begin to darken and redden with exposer to sunlight. Will white washing this floor stay white or will it eventually turn some sort of PINK. I can't find anything online that answers this question. Any input will be appreciated.

It depends on the white wash and the finish you use. Most of the white wash we've been using has weak pigmentation in it and on a red oak floor, will show some color through the white wash as a slight pinkish hue.

Considering the nature of Brazilian Cherry and how fast and much it will darken, you may want to consider a thinned down white stage paint.

Rosco Tough Prime bonds to the wood well, can be reduced with water and has excellent adhesion with oil and water based polyurethanes. You can get this paint in both black and white. It has an excellent shelf life and you can get it in gallon or 5 gallon containers.

We had 2 customers that wanted black floors, one used dye stain ( nightmare ) and the other used porch and patio paint ( nightmare on a whole new level ).

I found out about the tough prime after both of these jobs and had I known about this product prior, they both would have been smooth sailing with zero issues.
