Hello, I am trying to install some bruce tongue and groove 3/4" flooring. I started in front entryway and am working out, I have 15 rows completed. My entry is attached to my living room and my living room is attached to the commuity hallway where I have doors to three bedrooms and a bath.

I started with my nail gun firing as I enter the main room, I had planned on doing the entry, then a few rows along the living room wall then into the hallway. But I have a problem, the hallway backtracks off towards the front of the house. I am trying to decribe a U shape, I start on one side of the U, but when I get the the "hallway it is the other side of the U. It is running opposite of what I just did at the entry way and I am forced to nail into the groove, top nail or maybe glue???

I know this is common and it is encountered daily, but I am lost as to how to tackle the hallway nailing, I am sort of stuck and hope someone on here is kind enough to respond.

Thank you very much for any help

You can use a spline to turn around and go the opposite direction. A spline is a piece of wood that is basically a double wide tongue, you can make your own on a table saw and some place have them pre-made. You just insert the spline in the groove glue and nail in place and then you can start nailing through the tongue. You can see a pic here http://www.hardwoodflooringguide.com/tr ... oring.aspx

Thank you, you have given me a key word to search. Hopefull home depot or lowes or possibly another local lumber co has one. I was thinking maybe I could do half the hallway like I am going now, then rotate my board 180 degree's and put groove to groove for one board and start the other direction, if I can get my hands on a spindle that would work perfectly, I think. Thank you very much for your response..

I found splines at Menard's. Go to the hardwood flooring section and look for them where the wood transition trim is. There are 3 pcs. to a package, each around 3 or 4 ft long. Good luck!

Hey Mark, nice name. Thanks for your help, I don't have a Menards here but maybe I will find them at lowes or H.D. Thanks again
