Hi all,

I'm needing to rent a nailer for my floor installing. Could rent a Bostick nailer from Home Depot at $144 per week. Or I thought maybe buying a Central Pneumatic Nailer for $175 on ebay. Once I'm done with it, I'd relist it on ebay for maybe $75.00 and see where the bidding takes me.

How are Centrals anyway? Would I be wasting my money?

Thanks...Stan

Stan,

I can't say but I can tell you this. A guy I do contract work with bought a CP framing gun two years ago and uses it very heavily. It works as good as his high dollar Paslode. No problems at all and has plenty of power. Draws wood as good as any and better than most. I have an 18 ga CP brad/staple nailer I bought from Harbor Freight for 80% discount ($14). I love it. Works as good as any $150 brad nailer I've ever used. Never misses a hit.

Don

Occasionally I see that nailer at harbor freight on sale for $135. You can get a refurbished Bostitch on eBay for $330 as well. Check for a topic in the contractor section about nailer/staplers -the overall opinion was that the Cental unit was OK for the money.

I can't speak for the floor nailer but the CP brad nailer stapler combo unit I have borrowed from my friend is very problematic, contrary to what the other poster said. It jambs a lot, misfires, and requires pressures that are higher than its max rating to adequately seat staples.

That said, it is amazing that a $15 air stapler which is a copy of an $80 one actually works at all. It worked okay for what I did, I just had to seat some staples with a hammer.

I wouldn't buy a CP tool myself, but I like nice tools.

FYI, if you want a bostich FS unit, I have one I will be selling in a week or so when my project is finished. I bought it used and it works great. Otherwise try ebay. You can buy the bostich and resell it when your project is done.
