I am looking at purchasing a hand scraped floor for my great room. My husband has concerns about caring for the hand scraped floor. He has concerns that dirt, dust, etc will collect in the scraps and will be difficult to clean. I don't see this as an issue, but told him I would check with others who care for hand scraped floors. Does anyone have experience in caring for hand scrap floors and our my husbands concerns legit?

Thanks,
Julie

I'm curious to know as well, being an installer. Never had the chance to install the stuff. I'm also wondering how would you refinish these floors should the need arise (ie a room floods). If you need to sand them it would need ALOT of sanding to make flat again. Seems like more trouble than it's worth.

Caring for a hand-scraped floor is not difficult at all. You can use a vacuum with a felt or horsehair head, you can use a wood floor mop available from the store were floor is purchased.

If the floor starts to show signs of wear it can be recoated, If a room floods any floor may need replacing depending on the severity of the damage.

We've done a few flooded rooms and they always end up very nice. Some areas will expand and then dry with gaps, which is fill after the first sanding. After second sanding floor is good as new. A hand scraped floor cannot be filled wall to wall in my opinion because you end up filling all the hand scraping. I would guess the only way to remove unwanted filler is will a wire brush... just sounds like a nightmare to me :)

Not sure but why not? Plus you get 50,000sf per brush? Now thats got to be an exageration. hee hee

Here's a quote from the site you might have missed: "Its unique cylindrical-
designed brushes allow you to abrade with or against the pattern grain of the floor, making it ideal for parquet, herring bone, distressed and hand-scrapped flooring. The multiple brush grit offerings allow for various applications including abrading between coats during site finish applications."
