I have a natural wood, factory finished, hand scraped style, hardwood floor. The finish doesn't have any gloss on it and is looking too dull for our tastes. Is there any way to put a glossier finish on the floor? I'm sure the factory has a protective coating on the floor and not sure if I can just take urethane and recoat it. Would like to try something like this first rather than replace the floor. thanks for any ideas!

first u need to know what finish is on there..read the manufacturer specs.

2) the floor needs to be abraded thoroughly if its aluminum oxide finsih..then coat wiht preferably waterbase finish.

3)I am not a big fan of bonding/etching systems such as Tykote..
but they are an option

James, I haven't tried the Tykote machine. What's your take on it ?

Paul,

I haven't tried it either..I have done the tykote system years back a coupkle times actually when it was first out..
a far as I know so far it went ok..I just didnt like the process

and there really is no guarantee of it working....especially on beveled edges...

I spoke with LNL a and they basically told me there are many failures to this system and it is why they haven't made their own similar product.

I would just spray the floor really well with Bona Prep and buff it into the floor. This will prepare the floor so that a new coating will bond.

That sounds scary to me. Especially not knowing all the particulars...type of finish, residue, etc.
