Hi!

Can I put a waterbed on a floating hardwood floor? :?:

Using Homerwood 5/8" with a pad.

I know that cabinets can't go on them and things like fridges...

If I can't do it, then I will have to buy a new non-water bed.

THANKS!

Ben

Try not to have your water bed sit too close to one side of the room. You will be fine.

Hmmm... I have no choice but to have it against one wall because of the bookcase headboard. What problem will that cause?

Thanks,

Ben

People place all types of heavy furniture, safes, pool tables, waterbeds, etc. etc., at one end of a room. Not a problem. This does not alter movement. But like Mickey says...do not attach to floor or subfloor.

If all your heavy weight is on one side of the floating wood floors, the opposite side could sound hollow especially when you do not have much on it. One other thing could happen. The glued T&G could be pulled apart right under the heavy furniture like pool table when environment changed.

Placement of weight/furniture is not going to effect the sound of floating floor.

 This will not happen. Unless there are other completely different issues.

It may have to do with region of the floating wood floors put in. I have seen both cases happen in Midwest on floating wood floors.

Not to give you a hard time Unique...but movement is movement. There's degrees equal to eachother all over the country. Depending on living conditions in the home.

Unless a floating floor is "locked in", as a result of improper expansion space, or by meens of fastening ...it's amaizing the weight that will not hinder a properly installed floating floor from typical and extreme movement, without damage to the floor.

We have a big of swing of RH in a room from winter to summer in MN. Grand piano and pool table have been a concern as I have mentioned to most experienced installers in this market. I have seen that a wood flooring inspector from California hold a very different opinion about the similiar installation issue as a contractor in Midwest because they experienced it differently. They usually see different flooring failures in daily works.

Some issues in this business are universal...... I guess we'll agree to disagree  .

It's been interesting....although to me, reading back....not only have your comments counterdicted eachother, but infact, IMO, have been off the wall.

Are you suggesting that, in your part of the country......heavy objects on a floating floor need to be strategically placed? In order for the product to perform without problems? Or a difference in the way the floor feels under foot ?

These comments have me intrigued as well....."I have mentioned to most experienced installers in this market". " I have seen that wood flooring inspectors in California hold a very different opinion".

If I may ask...What is your capacity, and experience, in this business?

I've seen weight restrictions on some laminates but can't recall any on an engineered floater. I put refer's on them all the time, even sub-zero's.
