I want to install 5/16" solid Amendoim (BR111) in one bedroom (more if it works out well). I know I have to let it sit in the room for a week or so before installation. The room currently has a parquet wood floor that has been under carpet for many years. Can I install the new floor without removing the old floor? Can I glue right to the old wood rf should I put something in between? I've been told this floor needs to be glued, not stapled, is that true? Also, I'm planning on laying the floor at a diagonal. Where should I start? in a corner? across the longest diagonal? Any help and advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I wouldn't glue over it. That is like laying a piece of rubber over the entire existing wood. It could cause the existing to buckle.

I agree. If you were going to NAIL it down, then you would probably be ok. It is still a risk but less. But gluing down a floor over a glued down floor. That's a failure with a ticking time bomb.

Thank you. I checked the manufacturer's website, and apparently it is okay to nail down this kind of floor. So if I nail down the new floor over the old floor, do I need to put anything in between them, like a moisture barrier, or can I nail right into the old floor. I'm really new to all of this, so I do really appreciate your help. Thanks in advance. Debbie :)

It depends. If that old parquet floor is only 5/16" thick and glued to concrete, you will NOT be able to nail to it or glue to it. You could probably float over it but you would still be risking the parquet floor buckling and even perhaps rotting. It should be removed IF it is installed on concrete. Now IF the old parquet floor is glued onto plywood subflooring over a crawl space or basement, or the second floor of a house, then yes, IF the parquet is WELL ADHERED (attached), you could nail another floor over it. If it is loose at all, just tear it out. It isn't that hard UNLESS it's been glued to plywood with Franklin 911. Then look out and hire a pro.
