I have refinished one room, white oak floor. The rest of the house has been stained dark. I have made the test and chosen the color. Special Walnut.
After staining the room , dry stain looks lighter then the rest of the house. I know that oil based finish will darken the floor a bit.
I have applied second coat of stain.
Tomorrow I can either apply the third coat of stain if it still needs to be darker.I would rather apply a coat of finish and see how close it match.

What if it comes out too light?
Can I mix ZAR stain with BASIC oil based finished in orderto darken the floor?
Have you ever tried it?
Thanks
Rafal

Yes, but do not put very much stain into the poly, just a capfull or two. You will need to apply it very evenly. And it won't make the floor a lot darker but just a little bit. Newly refinished floors rarely match older, darker ones. It's a crap shoot. There's "tricks" but you're too far into it for that now UNLESS you're going to resand.
