Hi, I've been floor shopping for a month now and trying to find decent engineered single-plank floors. I set my budget at $2/sq ft for the wood. This does not leave me with too many options and I've pretty much settled on cheap, yet passable, engineered wood. I do live in Atlanta however, which is only 80 miles away from the carpet (along with wood) floor capital of the world, Dalton, GA. You can find $2 eng. wood from there. Some are A grade. Some are cabin. Some come with warranty. Some don't.

Then I decided to stop in at this local shop minutes away from my house. It's not a big place but the showroom inside was pretty nice and it was run by this individual owner. Most items were in the $3.50-$6.00 range. I didn't see $2 wood on display so when I told him what I was looking for, he then told me that he happened to have a rare opportunity to buy some bulk amounts of Tarkett Legacy wood b/c an order mistake occured or something like that and could sell it for me for $2.25. But he had to order quickly or the supply could be gone if I waited too long.

My first reaction was, "wow, SOLID hardwood for only $2.25!" FYI, Tarkett Legacy is 3/8" solid and is recommended for naildown or staple from the manufacturer. I told him that my floor is concrete so would it be possible to glue this down? He said it was fine with 3/8" solid and it was the 3/4" solids that had to be stapled/nailed down. He seemed like an honest guy, running his shop by himself locally since 1984 (ok, that doesn't really mean much but hey, I thought I'd thrown in what I thought of him - I've met some floor sales guys before that were just like used car salesmen. This guy was rather a straight shooter).

Then I got home and started googling - and of course everything I find says you CANNOT glue down solid floors. Most of them seem to assume that solid floors are 3/4" but can anyone answer this question? Can you glue 3/8" on concrete slab? Or is it a big fat NO no matter what? Even if you could, wouldn't that void Tarkett's warranty b/c I used glue instead of nail or staple? And aren't solid floors too prone to seasonal expansions to be glued to concreate?

Upon searching for the Tarkett Legacy line, most places online are selling these for over $4!!! I'm leaning towards not buying it but the deal is really good and I'm really looking forward to finishing my search soon. Any help/advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

It is a big risk gluing any solid wood to concrete. Concrete is the only reason engineered wood was produced.

There are moisture Blockers out on the market that have some real good marketing, but they are not fool proof, if not applied to the letter.

If Tarkett says don't glue it, then don't glue it.
