for Christ sake try to rent one. Just be sure to tell them you need a masonry blade. Or call The Tom Duffey company and hopefully they can give you a recommendation of someone in the area that's competent. They are the Crain Dealer in your area.
Believe me I have tried! Home depot and several other tool rental places! Undercutting is not super complicated and it is frustrating that the tool rental places, wood installers, and masonry experts I have called either have never heard of an undercut saw, don't have one, or want to use an angle grinder. Thanks for the info on Tom Duffey.
It is really boiling down to a contract issue. The flooring company said they would undercut in the contract. The person who is doing the actual installation (independent contractor) won't buy or rent the proper undercut equipment since he would be losing money. At this point I am basically going to force the flooring company that wrote the contract to just get the saw for my installer, find someone who has the saw, or risk breach of contract.
Thanks for all the help.
