Okay, this is sort of a festool specific expansion gap question.

Floating an engineered floor.

Wondering if it'd save me time to lay my first row flush to the wall, scribe as necessary, then after I've laid the rest of the floor come back and cut the 1/2" expansion gap with my track saw?

The first row is over 20' long - fyi.

Any reasons this is a boneheaded idea (I ask because I usually have 10 a day and I'm not at my quota yet).

Thanks for the input.

If you scribe the flooring to the wall when you start you can always pry it away from the wall to add some shins to hold it there before you reach a doorway or other immovable object which you will need to build in the expansion gap before you move along. The whole floor will slide way from the starting wall as a unit.

You can with a toekick saw but why not snap a line out a foot or two from the wall and start with a fastened down sacrificial row? You can even use other strips of something if you don't want to waste the flooring. Or glue it and top nail it.

Okay, so it sounds like there's nothing terribly boneheaded about the idea.

I'll let you know how it goes in execution.

In the meantime if anyone realizes why that's not a good way to proceed, I'm not going to make this mistake till monday!

Thanks,

Anthony
