We are in planning stages of gluing eng wood flooring on concrete in our living room/dining room. If we love it we are contemplating the same flooring for the entire first floor. Currently we have ceramic tile in our kitchen/entry way/hall area that potentially will be removed. Our LR/DR has an arch with "columns" in the middle of the room that we have to work around. Originally we were going to run the planks the length of the rooms which would require notching out the columns. After measuring the width of the room, we are discovering that the inside wall is not a consistent width from the outside wall. So now we are thinking of changing directions and laying the floor with the width of the room.

The big question is can I lay the LR/DR width-wise and change directions for my entryway and kitchen to run the opposite direction. They will meet as you can see in the 2 photos here: https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/U ... directlink

Since you are on a slab you could change directions or do whatever you want. If it were my house, I wouldn't change direction. At the most I would install a single plank width wise through the doorway to create a transition from the kitchen to the living room.

Take the extra time and work around the columns.

why not run at 45,the waste would be 20%higher but the result is amazing
