kinda long to explain..check my previous post..i am building a brand new house, with no carpet. had 2100 sq. ft. of bruce 4" nail down flooring installed. after installing the first two bedrooms upstairs the floor was crackling like crazy. the installers first thought it wasnt a big deal cause as you walked on it , it would go away. but the next day it was back. after getting the sales manuf. rep out, it turned out the house was out of wack with the moisture content. subfloor was reading 16-18, flooring reading 8, r.h. in house was 75%. the installers did not check, that i am aware of before they laid it. so we stopped for 6-7 weeks while we put a rush on the furnace and propane and let the house even out. the 2 bedrooms did cup kidna bad and the rep thought they might go down later. fast forward the house is better, they fly through the rest of the house and on the last day i have 12 bx. left. exactly my 10% overage for "just in case"..well we couldnt send i back so my wife just plain out said have them tear out our daughters room and replace it. no charge. they are the "experts" they should have known. well they did, i help tear it out took about 3 extra hrs total. They got paid (cash deal) the next day. and they also split their money by tiling my master shower. Well i asked if they could do my fireplace surround, trying to throw them some more money, small job but was worth $200 and it wouldnt take much time at all to finish. They agreed, laid the hardi backer and was waiting on the tile to come , when they went hunting and havent returned my phone calls and know i just found out the tile guy of this duo refuses to do it. he is still mad about have to replace the floor. Now i know business is business and i accept my part of the blame but they should know about the moisture variance and what it could do to the finished job. Was i a jerk for making them pull it out or was he for being a baby about it and not taking the other work?

What part are you to blame for? Just wondering. If you really wanted to to be a jerk, you could have demanded they reimburse you for the cost of the wood that cupped as well. The guy that decided he didn't want to do anymore work for you has that perogative. Second guessing his motives is futile. Perhaps he has a chance to work on another, more profitable job or is prefering to continue to hunt instead of work. Again, his perogative. Although personally, I would not accept a job, get it half done then decide I didn't want to complete it UNLESS the owner was trying to rip me off.

my blame is because I am the builder, and maybe i should have done more homework. But this is the first house i have built and no, we werent trying to screw anyone. we actually worked very well with all our contractors, paid them withing days of completion. I dont know, i just trying to play it back in my mind. in hindsight, what i have learned is to get more detailed info of who is doing what and when. we ran into some small problems here and there of this guy doesnt do this , its that guy. you ask that guy, he says no, the other guy does it. petty stuff really but i came in a liitle under budget and withing 6 mths from the start of our build for a 2800 sq. ft house with alot of upgrades. i thought like you said, i could have been a bigger jerk about everything but i tried to keep an even keel......
