Hello everyone, recently agreed to help a friend refinish a small bedroom in his house. Floor is some pretty old Red oak and required about 20sqft of board replacement because of some old water damage. Replaced the boards and all seemed well. used a Clark drum sander and edger with 36grit then 60 then screened well with a 80 grit buffer. I worker with a flooring contractor the summer before part time and this is the procedures that he used and seemed to work pretty well. After all the sanding and filling of some gaps I swept well with a Shopvac and used an applicator pole with a rag lightly soaked in paint thinner to clean the floor once more. After it dried I applied the first coat of Parks clear gloss with a 10" lambswool applicator. Followed up with a second coat about 10 hours latter (directions on can said no abrading required if done applied within 15 hours). After the second coat i started noticing some small bubbles and such. Whent ahead with the 3rd coat (about 10 hours latter) using the same procedure and thats when things started to get ugly. Bubbles got bigger and started seeing fisheye's and all. Decided to abrade with a 100grit buffer in hopes of sanding down all the marks and recoat. Did this about 16 hours after the 3rd.Cleaned well then applied the 4th. Now I got lines of blister"s and bubbles everywhere, but for some reason the closet is nice and smooth with no problems. Im planning on trying again, but allowing the floor a couple of days of drying and really hitting it well with the 100/120 pad again. Ive done the floors in my house with no issues using the same procedures. Any help here would be greatly appreciated and hopefully there is some way to fix this without sanding the whole floor again!

Contaminates.

Your tacking method and product may not have been 100% virgin mineral spirits. It may have had some wax.

paint thinner and alot of mineral spirits have gotten pretty crappy over the years. They are full of recycled stuff. recycled means its can be contaminated with silicates or other garbage. Youre probbally looking at a total resand from those pics. next time just use some water, its cheaper and wont have that trouble.
