We have a 14 year old Brazilian Cherry floor. It is a lighter color under some of the carpets, but when we took them up the floor color evened out. BUT in one area it is actually darker under the one 5 foot round carpet- and when we took up that carpet the coloring didn't change at all- have you ever heard of that- could it be some kind of chemical in the carpet? any suggestions on how we can even out that floor? it's in a bright room with no direct sunlight.

The backing on some area rugs have a plasticizer that will migrate through the finish and darken the wood. It takes time for it to evaporate and get lighter again. Warmth will make this happen sooner.
