Hello,

I just had pre-finished brazilian Cherry flooring installed, the sample of the wood in the store I picked out looks nothing like the flooring I received. The floors I thought I was getting was a very dark rich cherry wood, the floor I received was a very plain salmon type color. I can't imagine these floors ever get as dark as the sample I originally looked at. I don't hate the floors that I got, but they are certainly not what I thought and hoped I was getting.

DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY BEFORE AND AFTER BC PICS THEY CAN SHARE?

I also just had a custom railing and staircase installed, I did the railing and treads in Oak for obvious cost concerns. I now need to stain the railing and treads to match the BC floors. My concern is how dark do I stain them? How do i know where the floor color will end up in 6mos to a yr?

I feel I got in way over my head and don't want to make it any worse , any comments or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Brian...

The Brazilian Cherry will end up looking like the sample in time. Last month I completed an "add on" to existing Braz.Cherry. Right now it looks like night and day, but that's just for now. The more natural light you have in the room the sooner it will change. You should target the "sample" tones for your stairs.

I don't think you'll ever be happy trying to match the oak with the braz. cherry. It's not just the color, but the wood grain doesn't match at all.

IMHO, Different species can look good together in the same home, done right.

Here's a pic of my oak stair treads and Brazilian cherry floors. (granted this will not be the final color of the Brazilian cherry floors)

What we did is take the sample home, get a scrap piece of oak... try a couple different stains.. and see which one matches the best and how many coats. We ended up using Cobalt cherry stain (it was at lowes). I've also heard of people mixing stains to get the right color.

Don't worry about the color of the floor- it will change. Let the sun shine in if you want it to move faster :)
