Has anyone experienced a problem with BR111 engineered flooring with the finish peeling up? The floor is less than two years old and it was installed by a professional flooring firm. We used only the recommended cleaning product and nothing else. It looks like the finish is getting air pockets first, then the pocket breaks open, then the entire finish of any given board peels off like old fingernail polish. At first it was just a board here and there but now approximately 25% of the floor is showing signs the problem. The floor type is one of their newer exotics, and flooring forensic fellows have ruled out moisture as the cause. I am guessing it's a question of too much oil in a less than totally dry wood rising to the surface. I love the floor and this breaks my heart but unless I can understand what happened, I don't know how to proceed. Surely this is not very common or BR111 would be losing money replacing floors. Oh, and BR111 has gone silent for several weeks now - which is very disconcerting. Any ideas on what might have happened and why? Your comments will help me figure this out...

In the past they were very receptive to problems. Could be the Hoboken bankruptcy has them feeling short too. Try calling them again. I'd like to hear the responses.

How thick is the wear layer?

Some of these products have rotary peeled top wear layers that are incredibly thin.

We purchased the thickess version of the engineered product offered by BR111. What is interesting is that the boards displaying progressive stages of this peeling are a board here and there, not close to each other at all, across all 1,200 square feet of flooring - totalling almost a fifth of the floor right now and getting worse every day. So it wasn't just a single box that happened to be manufactured incorrectly. It's just the "varnish" layer, not the wood layers.

Finish peel is a defect. File a claim with BR-111.

Ray, not all finish peeling is a manufacturing defect.

Especially when the UV light glows green at the peeling.

That's definitely covered under their warranty. File a claim if you haven't already.

Some of BR-111's manufacturers have had finish adhesion problems on some products in the past. Doesn't mean everyone has the problem, but you were unlucky. They should pay to replace it.
