I am scheduled to pick up my new wood (below) on Sunday and my installer is going to start removing tile and carpet on Tuesday with an install date of Tuesday. I have purchased a moisture kit to test the slab on Sunday and I am hoping it will come back dry.

I have spoken to my installer about what happens if it is moist and he tells me that Bostiks Best has MVP built in and guarentess 20 years. I thought that was a seperate product? At this point I am assuming he is wrong and hoping the floor will be dry.

My question is if it is not dry and my installer insists that Best will work can I go ahead and buy an MVP locally (S. California) and install myself? Would it cost less than the glue costs? Also if I need to do any other sub floor preperation does anyone recommend someone in S Cal?

Bostik's Best does not and is not MVP. They are two seperate applications.

What kind of "test kit" is this? A dome / calcium chloride test, or a pH test?

Ya, I don't think I'd trust that installer. He knows just enough to be real dangerous, if he thinks Best is a moisture barrier.

Here is some pictures of a floor, the installer thought BEST was a moisture barrier, also... Man did it cost him. I really don't think his pockets were deep enough!!!

Well, technically speaking, Best and MVP are practically the same thing. They are not, however, together in a bucket. :)

Best by itself is good only to 3 pounds.(According to Bostik Findley) MVP and Best used in tandem (mvp one day, best the next) will give you a guarantee unmatched by anyone else in the industry. No limits. You don't even need to bother with testing.

Stauf 960 is a one step process. It is guaranteed for life on slabs making 12 pounds or less provided you use their trowel. It is pricey, but it is an awful lot faster than the MVP and Best regimen.

The Kit is a calcium chloride test and pH test. I ordered it from below:

http://www.installertools.com/cgi-bin/I ... gno=17-625

I read the Bostiks information from the datasheet on the website:

http://www.bostik-us.com/TDS/TDSFiles/BostiksBest.PDF

It appears that it offer some form of MVP but maybe not as much as MVP itself? I guess my question would be how much moisture is acceptable?

"This product contains Bostik's BLOCKADEā„¢ antimicrobial
protection, which inhibits the growth of bacteria, mold, or
mildew on the surface of the dried adhesive; the dried
adhesive resists stains caused by mold."

Thanks,

Nathan

The CC test is a 72 hour test, then you have to send the dish off for results.
Have you read the instructions yet?

BEST is not MVP or they would just say to use BEST twice, and there would not be such thing as MVP.

I haven't taken it out of the box yet and probably don't need to now because the test results would not come back in time.

Without buying an expensive device is their another way of being able to tell if I will need an MVP? It is clear my installer won't know and none of the other installers factored in any subfloor preperation. Maybe it is less relevant in S. Cal or maybe they could just tell that nothing needed to be done on their walkthroughs?

I move into this place the week after next and next week is the the floor installation. I don't have the option of not using the installer now and if I am going to delay the install and insist he purchase and install MVP I need to confirm the moisture levels before he starts on Tuesday. I get the keys Sunday, Any ideas?

Thanks,

Nathan
