Hello,

Installing 3 1/4" Red Oak #1 in my house. I am torn between the two poly's listed above. I do not want to mask the natuaral hues of the red oak, rather bring them out a bit, but need durability for dog traffic, etc. Thinking oil based sealer followed by two coats of Bona...VOC's aside, whats my best option for the situation and preferences mentioned?

Any pros or cons to the water based product, besdies price?

Thanks in advance!

Another question: What are my options for sealers? Don't want to go too dark, but still get good color out of the flooring?

Thanks!

Bona Traffic will resist scratches from dogs better than your typical OMU but all finishes will and can scratch. Bona makes a DriFast oil sealer that can be used under Traffic. They also make DriFast stains that can be mixed and reduced by their neutral/natural to arrive at just the tone or color you are looking for.

Thanks Gary. Hadn't been on the board sometime.

Dogs are doing a number to my Bona Traffic 3/4 Red oak #1, thought it would set and be a harder finish.

There is no finish that will hold up to dogs, period. Trim the nails or live with scratches. Traffic is WAY more scratch resistant than OMU.
