What are your experiences with Bona Traffic's hardness?

I finished a new white oak floor with bonaseal and 3 coats bona traffic satin about 3 years ago and to me it appears that the finish is somewhat soft compared to another room that was done with an oil based poly maybe 12 years ago, don't know the details of that finish though since I didn't do it. We have a 50lb dog with not very trimmed nails that really puts the floors to the test. In it's current state the floor has a ton of nail indentations, although they don't penetrate the finish, just dent the wood under the finish. The Bona finish seems very elastic compared to the oil finish which seems harder. If I take my nail and press it on the Bona finish it makes a divot vs this being much more difficult in the oil finish. Also the Bona seems to stretch in the expansion gaps between the boards, again indicating elasticity. So how can something be both elastic and hard?

Everywhere I read I see how Traffic is regarded as a very hard finish, but that's not what I'm seeing. I followed the directions exactly and used measuring cups to get the ratio right, so unless I screwed something up that I don't know about I would say I'm pretty confident I applied it exactly as it should be.

I do like the look of the finish and it looks like new still other than the indentations from my dog. Is this typical what I'm seeing? Would an oil based poly be better for my needs?

I'd say that the traffic might be slightly more elastic in that Bona tries to formulate it so that it doesn't side bond very much. But as far as hardness, Bona traffic should be nearly twice as hard as most oil based polys.

Some contractors that use traffic do not add the catalyst/hardener to it like they're supposed to. If the catalyst isn't used, the traffic probably wont dry as hard as it should. Otherwise, if used properly , Bona traffic is pretty much bullet proof.

I'm about to post a similar question. In comparison to the oil side, does the Bona side have more dents and scratches?
