Hi all,

I've been using the Bona Recoat System (Bona Remover, Bona Rinse, PowerScrubber and Bona Traffic HD) but I'm considering switching to Basic Coatings for my recoats (I.F.T., Squeaky, PowerScubber, TyCote, and StreetShoe.

Does anyone have experience using the Basic Coatings system for recoats? Any issues such as adhesion failure?

Any information greatly appreciated.

No problem with adhesion. I use a red pad to buff on the intensive floor treatment then rinse with squeaky using a spritzer bottle and towel that I rinse in the bowl. The only dead time is waiting for the Tykote to dry. A fan re-coat a fan helps everything dry quickly. I try to put one in a window and open a window on the far side of the house or the garage door. Even "clean" houses have lots of dirt on the floor, especially when the floor is worn. Sometimes the cleaning will take a coat of finish off. When the floor is really worn I recommend two coats, one after another. The Street Shoe will stick to bare wood and the Tykote. What the client gets is a "nice" old floor that looks pretty good and has the characteristics of a new floor, like easy to clean and smooth. It should last as long as the first coating. Plus the old finish that has never been worn does not get sanded off. I usually charge about half the price to sand and re-finish, $1200 minimum.

Stradivari: What is it about the Bona system that causes you want to switch to something else?...and why do you think the Basic system might be better?...and Pete A.: What is it about the Basic system that causes you to prefer it to anything else?

It's a good system that is hard to get wrong. The finish is a good 2 part poly.
