Hi. My name is Barbara and I am new to the forum and could use some advice about a finish problem.

We refinished the floors in our house with Bona Professional Grade Semi-gloss FloorPoly 350. Upstairs we had no problems with the sheen. Downstairs went well up until the third coat when we ran short and returned to Home Depot for 2 additional cans of poly. Both cans were labeled semi-gloss just like the others. Both were well mixed with a clean stirrer.

When we went back to look at the floor yesterday (day after coat three) we saw that all the areas which had been coated with new poly are satin while areas coated with the original poly are semi-gloss. All coats appeared uniformly semi-gloss up until this last.

I'm curious if anyone else has had a similar problem and what steps can be taken.

Thank you!
Barbara

Home Depot has a Bona product?I highly doubt that.

I have never heard of Bona 350...no clue what that is..maybe we don't get it in NJ.

if you used a different finish then that is your problem..even if you used the same,,you should mix it with first batch before you run out..and make one consistent mix.

Your last point is very interesting...I would have never thought of it.

Yea Bona bit the hand that feeds them with that a while back. You can get differences in sheens from a few different things but the only thing that's going to fix it is another coat of finish.
1. stir properly before and during application.
2. watch the application rate, thicker will come out shinier. A film thickness variation will cause sheen variations.
3. Call bona's tech line, be ready to accept blame because they sure wont.
