I was told I need a power stripper if I use this product.
What will it take to re-coat my floors after 8 years with another coat of poly.
The finish is a water base Bona poly. It has quite a few coats of Bona floor polish on it now. Has anyone done this?
Thanks,
mike

Ummmn Mike:

Nearly all the guys that volunteer their contributions on this board work all day long in a very demanding and physically draining occupation. They are also not your average arm chair "experts" either. Be patient and there is no need for the unpleasant acronyms, one of which was deleted.

The floor has to be sanded..you can not remove the polish mechanically or chemically and you can not coat over it.

Well Im back. Anyway you can remove the polish which is just a water downed acrylic poly. Basic coatings and Bona have a polish remover that will take care of it. You will at least need a buffer but better off with a auto scrubber. Its a band aid type fix, just be careful if you do use the product to get the floor super clean prior to application. I wouldnt use the garbage, the sheen most likely wont match and you just end up with a mess. If your floor needs some attention I would suggest doing a maintenance coat of finish. Its going to last ten times longer and look way better. Ive seen guys do them all the time for .50 to a buck a square foot depending on quality of finish. Im all for fixing the right way the first time.

I spoke with Bona on this very matter.

I suggest you give them a call.

I DESPISE the folks at Bona and if you called the tech line you have a 50/50 chance of getting someone really in the know. I have never used the Bona remover personally. I have a Bona Certified craftsman that buys stuff from me regularly and he is the one that told me about the bona polish remover. I have used the dissolver from Basic and it does work but you have to make sure to get it all off by testing for with the acrylic test kit they offer. Id say Bona just has caught so much chit for making the stuff and the hundreds of floors it has messed up that their default answer is if you want to be sure you need to resand. Kinda messed up they sell a maintenance product that isnt compatible with their line.
